Diego Pavia says he plays hurt for Jerry Kill: 'I will not quit on that guy'
Diego Pavia played hurt during Vanderbilt’s 20-13 road victory over the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday. And he didn’t mind doing so in the slightest.
That comes down to a lot of who Pavia is in nature as a quarterback, but also to coach Jerry Kill and the loyalty that Pavia has to him.
“You look at Jerry Kill, what he’s done for us, man,” Pavia said. “I will not quit on that guy. I don’t care if I got a broken arm, broken anything. I do this for Jerry Kill. Real stuff, he has problems off this field way bigger than a little injury like I got, compared to what he got. That’s my guy. I’m willing to die for him.”
Pavia fought through the pain to get the outcome the Commodores were after this weekend, playing an essential role in the team achieving a now 4-2 overall record with Ball State up next on the schedule. He was 15-for-18 passing with 143 yards through the air, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.
He also carried the ball 14 times for 53 yards.
Pavia and the Commodores are expected to prevail in what should be a tune-up game next, but will find out what they’re truly made of when they face the Texas Longhorns directly after that.
