New Vanderbilt head football coach Clark Lea doesn’t have to look far to see what it takes to build a winning culture on the West End. Tim Corbin’s baseball program has been a national power. Now, Lea will see if one of Corbin’s off-field staffers can help him rebuild the Commodores football program.

Robbie Weinstein of Vandy247 reports that Lea has hired Casey Stangel as director of football operations. Stangel held the titles of internal operations coordinator and assistant to head coach on Corbin’s baseball staff. Weinstein notes that Stangel becomes the SEC’s only female director of football operations or equivalent, as not every program using the exact same titles for off-field administrative positions.

Stangel played softball for Washington, helping lead the Huskies to the 2017 Women’s College World Series. After her playing career ended, she joined the Vanderbilt program in 2017.

As far as Lea’s other staff hires, it was recently reported he is working to hire Syracuse special teams coach Justin Lustig.
