After making a deep run at the College World Series and finishing as the runner-up, Vanderbilt is losing a key player from its successful team.

Outfielder Isaiah Thomas announced on Instagram on Monday that he is stepping away from the program ahead of his senior year. Aria Gerson of The Tennessean confirmed that Thomas will no longer be with the Commodores.

Thomas played 59 games and made 57 starts for Vanderbilt during the 2021 season, batting .305 with 13 home runs and 40 RBIs. He played in 96 games over his three years with the Commodores.

However, it seems that Thomas was not pleased with how his relationship with the program ended.

“After years of relationships, they choose their beliefs over the well being of mental health and took advantage of that sensitive aspect in my life,” Thomas wrote on Instagram. “That is all there is to share publicly at the moment. My teammates, this is not about you, it’s for me.”

Thomas still has another year of eligibility, so he can go play at a different school if he chooses to do so. He initially announced he was intending to return to Vanderbilt after not getting selected in the 2021 MLB Draft.

Meanwhile, the Commodores will need to find a way to replace one of their starting outfielders for the 2022 season. They still have a talented core that could help them be successful again next year.
