After a 4-8 season a year ago, the Florida Gators are attempting to climb back to the top of the SEC East. Will Muschamp brought in offensive coordinator Kurt Roper to help overhaul the offense, and the Gators are averaging 50.5 points per game so far. The defense, as expected, has been stellar so far, getting after quarterbacks a fearsome amount.

After blitzing Eastern Michigan in the opener, Florida battled Kentucky in a triple overtime contest, narrowly escaping with the victory, 36-30.

Here are five Florida standouts Alabama fans should get familiar with before Saturday.

  1. QB Jeff Driskel: The junior quarterback has been up and down in his career, but Roper’s offense seems to be more of a fit for his skill set. Driskel is an athlete who can throw on the move, and has 4 TDs and 1 INT in two games.
  2. RB Matt Jones: Jones has been punishing defenders so far. The 235-pound back has 221 yards to start the season and scored the game-winning TD in triple overtime against Kentucky.
  3. WR Demarcus Robinson: Driskel’s favorite target has been unstoppable in two games. He already has 339 receiving yards and 3 TDs, and he had 15 grabs in that Kentucky thriller.
  4. CB Vernon Hargreaves, III: The SEC’s best corner has been blanketing receivers so far. He has 5 passes defensed and has all the physical tools to keep pace with Amari Cooper.
  5. LB Neiron Ball: Ball has been all over the field for the Gators in two games, tying for the team lead in tackles with 11 and leading the team in sacks with 2.0.
