Through five games, No. 1 Alabama (5-0, 2-0) has proved to be devastating for opposing offenses, allowing just 13 points per game (9th in FBS), a modest 4.22 yards per play (8th), and has already recorded 17 sacks (t-12th) this early in the year.

But the Crimson Tide rank No. 1 nationally — tied with Ohio State — with five defensive touchdowns. And not only do they lead the country in defensive scores, but they’ve been able to do it with five different players finding the end zone: Eddie Jackson, Da’Ron Payne, Jonathan Allen, Ronnie Harrison and Marlon Humphrey.

“I didn’t even know that,” coach Nick Saban said during Wednesday’s SEC teleconference. “We do a lot of work on attacking the ball getting the ball and causing turnovers and that creates those opportunities. Putting pressure on the quarterback all allows for that. I hope we can continue to do that.

“I’m sure (defensive touchdowns) can be (contagious),” he added. “Anything you emphasize with your players, you likely see results from that.”

Alabama will look to continue this vicious streak when it takes on Arkansas — which ranks 58th in turnovers with seven on the season — this Saturday evening.
