Using Blake Sims, the former Tide starting quarterback from the 2014 season, to help run the Texas A&M scout team offense worked so well for Alabama in its last game, the Tide have brought back another former starter to help in preparation for facing the LSU offense this week in practice.

According to Michael Casagrande of AL.com, John Parker Wilson returned to Tuscaloosa to run the LSU scout team offense this week in practice. The 31-year old Wilson, of course, was Alabama’s starting quarterback from 2006-2008. One has to wonder if watching film of current LSU starting quarterback Danny Etling made Alabama head coach Nick Saban make a comparison between the two predominately pocket passers.

While this is an unusual move, the NCAA has stated this practice is legal, according to NCAA bylaw 14.2.1.6.

One possible good omen for LSU in this news? Wilson went 1-2 in his starts against the Tigers, so it’s not like he has many good tips on beating LSU.
