The Georgia Bulldogs are one game closer to filling their 2018 slate, as the school reached an agreement to host the UMass Minutemen in 2018.

According to the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Georgia will pay UMass $1.5 million to make the trip to Athens. UMass Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford released the following statement announcing the news.

“I am pleased we have scheduled a 2018 football game ‘between the hedges’ at Georgia,” Bamford said. “It will be a great experience for members of our football program and will provide us increased visibility against an SEC opponent in an area of the country where Coach (Mark) Whipple and his staff are recruiting prospective student-athletes. In addition, we are also thrilled to schedule a home-and-home basketball series with the Bulldogs in future years.”

The Bulldogs now have two non-conference opponents scheduled for the 2018 season, as Georgia will also host in-state rival Georgia Tech in 2018. With games against annual SEC East opponents, cross division foe Auburn and rotational SEC West opponent LSU, Georgia is now two games away from completing its 2018 schedule.

The agreement between the schools also includes a home-and-home basketball series. The games are scheduled to be played at UMass in 2017 and in Athens in 2018.
