Who are Georgia’s five best quarterbacks in program history? It’s up for discussion:

5. Fran Tarkenton (1958-60) — One of two college football Hall of Famers on this list, Tarkenton helped the Bulldogs win an SEC Championship in 1959 as a decorated All-American pocket passer. Tarkenton’s NFL career shined even brighter. In 18 professional seasons, the Hall of Famer completed 3,686 of 6,467 passes for 47,003 yards and 342 touchdowns. Tarkenton’s touchdown total is fourth-best all time.

4. Zeke Bratkowski (1950-52) — This two-time All-American held multiple program records lasting over a decade during an era in which teams rarely threw the football. He led the SEC in passing during both national noteworthy seasons and interestingly led college football in punting during his senior year with a 42.6 yard average.

3. John Rauch (1945-48) — Rauch started an incredible 45 consecutive games during his career and became college football’s first quarterback to surpass 4,000 yards passing in a career. The Hall of Famer directed the Bulldogs to a league championship as the SEC’s Player of the Year in 1946.

2. David Greene (2001-04) — Georgia’s all-time winningest quarterback surpassed early 1990s signal caller Eric Zeier for the program lead in nearly every statistical record prior to Aaron Murray, but the real feather in his cap was a 2002 SEC Championship. Greene’s 214 consecutive passes without an interception during his senior senior set a new SEC record, but was surpassed by Kentucky’s Andre Woodson three years later.

1. Aaron Murray (2010-13) — The SEC’s all-time passing yardage and touchdowns leader also holds the school record for pass efficiency. The Tampa, Fla., native became a four-year starter after redshirting in 2009 and ended his career with an incredible 114 touchdown passes, tied for seventh-most in college football history. Murray’s numbers at Georgia won’t soon be matched.

Just missed the cut: Matt Stafford (2006-08); Eric Zeier (1991-94); Mike Bobo (1994-97); Buck Belue (1978-81)
