As the NFL strives to make the game safer for its players, football remains an inherently dangerous sport.

Former Georgia linebacker Leonard Floyd is the latest player to suffer a serious injury after his helmet smashed into the thigh of a Chicago Bears teammate while they tried to tackle New York Giants running back Rashad Jennings.

Floyd immediately went to the ground where he was attended to by medical staff. The Bears’ first-round draft pick was then secured and immobilized before being carted off the field.

At Georgia, Floyd was one of the SEC’s most talented pass rushers. He finished his career with 17 sacks and five forced fumbles.
