LSU is coming off it’s worst loss in 15 years and, at 0-2 in the SEC, is in desperate need of a win. They run into a Florida team that, despite it’s 3-1 record (2-1 in the SEC) is struggling as well. Coach Will Muschamp is under fire and the team has had some off-field issues crop up this week. Despite the turmoil around the program, there’s still a football game to play this weekend, so get to know some of the most important Gators.

  • QB Jeff Driskel: If not for freshman Treon Harris’ legal issues, Driskel might be on the bench this weekend. Instead, the offense is still in his not-so-capable hands. Driskel has led the offense to 14 points in the Gators’ last two games, none last week at Tennessee. Driskel is interception prone, with 6 interceptions on the season. He is a mobile quarterback and might be able to hurt LSU with his legs.
  • RB Matt Jones: Jones has been Florida’s most consistent offensive player, averaging 93 yards per game on the ground. The junior is a powerful runner, but his health will be the question. He’s missed a couple of days of practice with a swollen knee. If he’s not healthy, Florida’s offense will be hard to watch.
  • DE Dante Fowler Jr.: The Gators’ defensive end has been relentless in pursuing quarterbacks this season. He only has 1.5 sacks, but on top of that has tallied 6 quarterback hurries and has forced a fumble. Fowler will be a handful for the struggling LSU offensive line.
  • S Keanu Neal: Neal has struggled in coverage, but he’s made up for it somewhat with his nose for the ball. He leads the team in takeaways with 3 interceptions and a fumble recovery, which he took back for a touchdown against Alabama. Neal is fourth on the team in tackles, but that could be attributed to him allowing too many catches in front of him.
  • CB Vernon Hargreaves: The sophomore cornerback is an athletic freak and should be able to run and jump with LSU’s big-play receivers. Hargreaves got his hands on his first interception of the season against Tennessee last week, and LSU’s quarterbacks would be wise not to test him too much.
