The LSU Tigers struggled mightily in 2017 when it came to kicking field goals, making only 16 of their 27 attempts.

Therefore, coach Ed Orgeron and his staff are looking to add as many kickers to the mix as possible this offseason in the hopes that one of them turns out.

On Monday, K Avery Atkins announced he was accepting a preferred walk-on spot with the Tigers, sharing his decision via Twitter:

The Tigers have already added Cole Tracy, a graduate transfer from Assumption College, to the mix for 2018, and now Atkins will have a chance to earn some playing time, too.

Last year’s kickers, Connor Culp and Jack Gonsoulin, will also be back in Baton Rouge. Who emerges as the starter will be one of the most hotly contested positions this spring and summer.
