New LSU head coach Ed Orgeron has promised to assemble the best coaching staff in the nation with his first priority being the retention of defensive coordinator Dave Aranda. So far, Orgeron has kept his word.

Following an ESPN report from Monday, FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman is also reporting that Aranda has signed on to stay at LSU and adds that the new deal will make him the highest-paid coordinator in the college game:

It has also been reported that Aranda will be adding a new job title next season, as he will become the associate head coach to Orgeron. LSU finished the regular season with the nation’s No. 7 scoring defense while surrendering more than 21 points only once, all while transitioning to Aranda’s multiple defense.

With his defensive coordinator now in place, Orgeron’s attention has likely shifted toward landing an offensive coordinator. In his own words, Orgeron said he will hire the nation’s best OC at LSU, with most speculating that job will ultimately be filled by current Alabama coordinator Lane Kiffin.

In fact, even Feldman agrees that Kiffin is likely set to join his old friend Orgeron on the Bayou.
