Indiana’s defense can’t get much worse than it was last season. The Hoosiers brought in defensive coordinator Brian Knorr from Wake Forest to put some of the pieces back together, or at least prevent them from scattering all over the field.

But Indiana will go as far as its offense takes it in 2014. All of the Hoosiers’ best players remain on the offensive side of the football.

1. QB Nate Sudfeld: This summer, Tre Roberson announced his intention to transfer, and a two-quarterback system became one. Sudfeld is not a runner, but he’s completed better than 60 percent of his passes every season at Indiana. The 6-foot-5 junior has an NFL frame and has raised his completion percentage to more than 71 percent in two games this season.

2. RB Tevin Coleman: A strong Doak Walker Award candidate, Coleman has forced his way into the conversation as the best Big Ten running back with Melvin Gordon, Ameer Abdullah and Jeremy Langford. Coleman was one of the best big-play backs in all of college football last season and just needs to stay healthy to get national recognition.

3. G Dan Feeney: He missed all of last season with a foot injury and is relatively inexperienced on IU’s veteran offensive line. Coach Kevin Wilson noted in a recent press conference that his 6-foot-4, 305-pound guard still is knocking off some rust, but the all-Big Ten candidate is a powerful piece for the Hoosiers.

4. LT Jason Spriggs: The anchor of one of the best offensive lines in the Big Ten (perhaps behind only Wisconsin and Iowa), Spriggs has started 26 career games. At 6-foot-7 and 300 pounds, the junior is trying to improve on back-to-back honorable mention All-Big Ten selections in 2012 and 2013.

5. WR Shane Wynn: His 68-yard catch-and-run against Missouri last season went for a touchdown, but Wynn was the team’s No. 3 receiver then. He caught 10 passes for 139 yards against Bowling Green in Indiana’s last outing and has nearly 150 career receptions. At 5-foot-7, 167 pounds, Wynn has some similarities to Missouri jitterbug Marcus Murphy.
