Defensive tackle Terry Beckner Jr. is one of the most coveted recruits of the 2015 class.

He’s the kind of player that could help Missouri secure the best class of the Gary Pinkel era, and more importantly, contribute on the field in the fall.

Will he be just another five-star at Florida State or the next potential superstar defensive lineman at Mizzou? We’ll find out at about 10:45 a.m. ET on Wednesday, but the Tigers sold the heck out of the latter this past weekend, making it clear the 6-foot-4, 300-pound Beckner Jr. is anything but one of several.

The No. 2 player in the nation according to ESPN and No. 13 according to the 247Sports Composite, Beckner Jr. probably could play immediately, joining returnees Harold Brantley and Josh Augusta in what could be the best group of defensive tackles in the country in 2016, if not before.

All indications are that Beckner Jr. loved the visit to Columbia, Mo., but when is that not the case after a teenager takes an official visit to a power-conference football program?

The Tigers do have a strong chance to outdo the Seminoles and land the local kid. Defensive line coach Craig Kuligowski had considered accepting a co-defensive coordinator position at Illinois in late January, which could’ve hurt Mizzou, but decided to return at the last minute.

Missouri’s recruiting class currently ranks 27th in the country according to 247Sports, including four-star QB Drew Lock, four-star RB Natereace Strong and four-star RB Chase Abbington. But Beckner Jr. would be the best of the class by far and the most likely to contribute as a true freshman.

After winning back-to-back SEC titles, landing Beckner Jr. also would provide tangible evidence that Pinkel and the Tigers have leveraged on-field success into momentum and buzz.

According to ESPN:

It’s common for fans to do their part to help impress recruits while on official visits, but Missouri’s went above and beyond to wow No. 2 ranked Terry Beckner Jr. this weekend on his visit to Columbia. … It’s that type of love, plus a long-standing relationship with his high school coach, that could make the Tigers hard to beat … Auburn, Florida State and Ohio State have done everything they can to make his recruitment interesting, but Beckner’s family said Missouri rolled out the “golden carpet” this weekend and they loved their time in Columbia.
