Here are some quick thoughts from Arkansas’ 28-3 Battle Line Rivalry victory over Missouri:

What it means: Arkansas bounced back to finish an up-and-down 7-5 regular season on a high note. The Tigers finish a disappointing 5-7 after back-to-back years as SEC East champions. Missouri coach Gary Pinkel will likely retire with a record of 118-73 pending a bowl bid.

What I liked: Arkansas stayed committed to the ground game. When RB Alex Collins scored on a four-yard touchdown run, he had only 18 yards on his first eight carries. By half time, Collins was up to 91 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. Missouri’s defense delivered a three-and-out to start the second half and try to get its offense some momentum. The Razorbacks controlled the clock with steady ground and pound.

What I didn’t like: Arkansas entered the game allowing 6.3 yards per play, but Missouri managed only 171 yards on 52 plays. Mizzou’s best chance to get back in the game was to score on its first possession of the second half, but the Tigers’ drive stalled around midfield and resulted in a punt. Arkansas QB Brandon Allen was left in a wet, rainy game despite a 28-3 fourth-quarter lead.

Who’s the man: Arkansas RB Alex Collins (30 carries, 130 yards, 3 TD) absolutely dominated Missouri’s defense, one of the SEC’s highest ranked units (No. 10 total defense, No. 23 rushing defense in the FBS). Collins’ nine games of 100-yards of more leads the SEC in a year which division rivals LSU and Alabama have the most talked-about running backs (Leonard Fournette and Derrick Henry).

Key play: RB Kody Walker’s 9-yard touchdown run with 2:15 left in the third quarter made it 28-3 Arkansas, ending any hope of a second-half Tigers comeback. Walker provided an extra boost to the Razorbacks’ ground attack, with 77 yards on 14 carries.

What’s next: At 7-5, Arkansas will likely be heading to an SEC “pool of six” bowl. Missouri will have to wait and see if there’s one more game left in the Pinkel era. With 80 bowl invitations to be handed out, and only 71 available teams heading into the final weekend, there’s a chance even 5-7 MU could play in the postseason, against Pinkel’s stated wishes.
