Florida’s kicking problems were so glaring in 2015 that coach Jim McElwain invited students — biology majors to prospective engineers — to an open tryout.

During the season.

This is what it looked like:

Former Gators’ walk-on Dallas Stubbs was among those who tried out, and he eventually rejoined the team.

Such measures won’t be necessary in 2016. The Gators signed the top kicking prospect in the country, Eddy Pineiro, out of Miami.

Pineiro headlines a list of the SEC’s five highest rated incoming kickers and punters in 2016, according to 247Sports.com’s composite rankings.

1. Eddy Pineiro, K, Florida (Miami)

Pineiro, the No. 1-rated JUCO kicker in the country, already is a social media star.

Pineiro was a longtime Alabama commit, telling 247Sports in October that he was “150 percent” committed to the Tide.

McElwain could have used him in the 2015 SEC title game, but he’s certainly happy to land him.

2. Braden Mann, K, Texas A&M (Cypress, Texas)

Mann, the No. 4 kicker in his class and No. 1,187 prospect overall was so excited to join the Aggies he wanted to commit before Signing Day … in 2015. Coach Kevin Sumlin told him to wait until the day after, so he did.

“I committed the day after signing day. They knew I was going to commit before signing day. I think at the end of the interview, (Sumlin) wanted to kind of like hint to people that I was going to commit. He didn’t hint who though. Most people expected it to be someone else, not a kicker. Kickers are people, too, though,” Mann told 247Sports, laughing.

3. Tucker McCann, K, Missouri (O’Fallon, Ill.)

McCann, the No. 5 kicker and No. 1,308 player overall, also has a big leg. He reportedly set an Illinois high school record with a 60-yard field goal as a junior.

He told St. Louis Today that he picked Missouri over Alabama, among others.

“I look for where I can get to be the best kicker I can be and make it to the next level,” McCann told the paper. “I really want to make it to the NFL. I look for the schools that have it all to get me to the next level.”

4. Grant McKinniss, P, Kentucky (Findlay, Ohio)

McKinniss, the nation’s No. 5-rated punter, also handled field-goal duties in high school.

5. Connor Culp, K, LSU (Phoenix, Ariz.)

Culp, the No. 9 kicker, No. 1,609 prospect overall, was selected to kick in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

He told nola.com that he chose the Tigers because he wanted a chance to win it all.

“I want to play at the highest level, which I think LSU is,” Culp said. “I want to compete at the highest level, as well. I kind of wanted a little change from Arizona, too.”

LSU wasn’t done, however. It also landed the nation’s No. 3 punter, Bailey Raborn, who will join the team as a preferred walk-on, nola.com reported.
