Continuing our daily look at top recruits in each of the SEC states, the next stop in South Carolina. In years the Palmetto State is loaded, South Carolina and Clemson typically have their better seasons. The 2016 class isn’t great, but it’s solid with the Tigers and Gamecocks seemingly having first right of refusal.

Based on 247Sports’ 2016 composite rankings by state, here are South Carolina’s 10 best prospects and where they’re headed (comments where necessary):

1. Tavien Feaster, RB, 6-0, 200, Spartanburg (five stars, committed to Clemson): The nation’s top running back is a solid commit to Clemson, but the Gamecocks are trying to get an official visit to make things interesting.

2. John Simpson, OG, 6-5, 300, North Charleston (four stars, uncommitted): This seems like a Clemson-South Carolina battle to the finish, but LSU had an official visit in November and there’s much to be decided. Simpson will play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

3. Bryan Edwards, WR, 6-3, 205, Conway (four stars, committed to South Carolina): Edwards will enroll in January.

4. Javon Kinlaw, OT, 6-6, 275, Goose Creek (four stars, committed to South Carolina): Kinlaw committed to South Carolina less than a week ago. Maryland remains in the picture and will get a January official.

5. Nyles Pinckney, DT, 6-3, 285, Seabrook (four stars, committed to Clemson).

6. Troy Pride Jr., CB, 6-0, 180, Greer (three stars, committed to Notre Dame)

7. Stephen Davis Jr., ATH, 6-4, 220, Irmo (three stars, uncommitted): Travaris Robinson was Davis’ primary recruiter at Auburn and that may give South Carolina the edge.

8. Brandon Hill, LB, 6-2, 220, Columbia (three stars, committed to Duke)

9. Larry Collins, WR, 6-3, 190, Hopkins (three stars, uncommitted): East Carolina, Wake Forest and N.C. State are among the schools interested in Collins.

10. Thomas Jones, S, 6-2, 185, Laurens (three stars): Jones is committed to Vanderbilt … to play baseball.
