Shameik Blackshear, considered one of the jewels of South Carolina’s 2015 signing class, was arrested Friday night and charged with petit larceny according to the Beaufort County Detention Center, news first reported by the Island Packet.

Blackshear, a four-star defensive end and Under Armour All-American, is recovering from an ACL tear suffered in Week 1 that seized his senior season at Bluffton High in South Carolina.

South Carolina laws state petit larceny — or petty theft — is a misdemeanor lower-level offense. Petit larceny is defined as the theft of property or services valued at $2,000 or less. (S.C. Code Ann. § 16-13-30(A).)

Blackshear is one of 30 newcomers in a class ranked in the Top 20 nationally by 247Sports.
