True freshman receiver and kick returner Speedy Noil went down with an injury Saturday against Rice, first removing himself from the game and then getting carted to the locker room.

Texas A&M has not commented on the injury as of Tuesday morning, but 247 Sports is reporting that Noil suffered an MCL injury and will miss up to five weeks.

Noil, a five-star recruit out of New Orleans at 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, emerged as a starter after enrolling early this spring. He has 12 catches for 197 receiving yards, one kickoff return for 53 yards and three punt returns for 74 yards.

Redshirt sophomore Edward Pope will start in his place at receiver, while freshman Nick Harvey will return kicks, 247 Sports reported. Pope, who is five inches taller than Noil, but 10 pounds lighter, has 10 catches for 167 yards and two touchdowns.

If the report is accurate, Noil is in jeopardy of missing games against No. 10 Ole Miss (Oct.11) and No. 3 Alabama (Oct. 18).

Texas A&M had not addressed the report as of 9:45 a.m. ET on Monday.

Noil already is a good receiver, but Texas A&M has plenty of pass-catching options. We’ll see how Harvey performs, but the Aggies may miss Noil the most as a kick returner, where in four chances he already has come close to breaking at least two for touchdowns.
