One of college football’s best new traditions will be making its return for a third consecutive season and now has a target game scheduled thanks to Tennessee fans’ votes.

The fine folks over at Checkerboard Neyland have released the results of their 2016 poll and Vol fans have selected the Sept. 24 Florida game over the Oct. 15 Alabama game by a mere 36 votes.

However, despite the beautiful aesthetic look the Checkerboard Neyland campaign brings to Neyland Stadium, some fans fear it brings bad luck to Tennessee. Both times Vol fans have Checkerboard the stadium, Tennessee has lost in heart-breaking fashion.

The first loss was to Florida in 2014 despite the Vols being up 9-0 entering the fourth quarter and the second loss came against Oklahoma last season in double overtime after leading the game 17-0 heading into the fourth quarter.

Regardless of where you stand on the subject, you can expect a beautiful setting on Rocky Top come Sept. 24 on a weekend the Vols are already anticipating to be one of the best in-season recruiting trips in the nation for many of the top prospects on Tennessee’s recruiting board.
