We’re getting deeper into the college football season, and that means we’re getting more “real” match-ups.

The football just looks better in late September than it does in August. Unfortunately, though, this is also the time of year when many players get injured as competition gets more intense.

The first two videos in this week’s “around college football” chronicles two of these “injuries” … if you can even call them that. Let’s just say they aren’t your typical bum knees.

College football buttfumble

It can’t get much worse at Texas. Well, yeah it can.

Mark Sanchez made the buttfumble famous with the New York Jets, and Texas had its own buttfumble Saturday night. Simply incredible.

The celebration injury

This seems to happen every year; a player scores a big touchdown and, during the celebratory process, does something to hurt himself.

That’s unfortunately what happened to Notre Dame DB Drue Tranquill. Man, the Irish just can’t catch a break this season.

The fake injury

Somehow, Texas football’s stock dropped even lower after this Oscar-worthy performance.

Unless there was a Banshee on the sideline (which, given recent events in Austin, wouldn’t be the craziest thing to happen in the Texas athletics program), I’m not buying this “injury.” The NCAA needs to to heavily penalize this type of behavior.

Subtweeting your Twitter bio

Ohio State QB Cardale Jones was replaced by J.T. Barrett during the Buckeyes close win over Northern Illinois. The National Championship winner was quick to update his depth chart status on Twitter.

Is this Jones just having fun with his followers? Or is this maybe the quarterback subtweeting Ohio State coach Urban Meyer for another chance?

An unreal reverse

It’s always cool when a quarterback catches a pass, but this play by San Diego State brought the reverse to a whole new level.

South Alabama players weren’t the only ones fooled – the camera guy also had trouble tracking this play.

When you probably should have just gone for it on fourth down

Kent State’s coach probably wants this one back.

We’re going to assume that punt was the result of a freak physics accident. Or, you know, maybe the the punter didn’t keep the laces out.
