It’s hardly surprising in a heated rivalry dubbed “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate” that the two sides can’t agree on anything, let alone the actual series record.

Georgia Tech says state rival Georgia has a 64-40-5 all-time edge in the series that is set to resume Saturday when the two schools meet for the 110th time.

The Bulldogs, however, contend, that they have a 64-38-5 all-time advantage and don’t count two rival victories during World War II because the Yellow Jackets allegedly used players from a naval officers training program hosted on campus.

One of the few things on which they will likely agree is a list of five players from both sides who figure to make a difference in the game.

1. Georgia RB Sony Michel: The electrifying sophomore tailback has almost single-handedly carried a struggling Bulldogs offense as of late. He accounted for 132 yards on 23 carries in last week’s narrow 23-17 overtime win over Georgia Southern, including the game-winning touchdown from 25 yards out on the Dawgs’ first offensive play of the extra period. Michel is a home run threat carrying the ball as much as he is catching it out of the backfield. Michel needs 73 yards to reach 1,000.

2. Georgia OLB Leonard Floyd: The future pro and Butkus Award finalist was unstoppable last weekend, totaling 12 tackles, including 3.5 stops for loss. Floyd almost single-handedly blew up the Georgia Southern offense in the overtime to lead the Georgia defense to a huge stop to save the day.

3. Georgia WR/KR/PR Isaiah McKenzie: The sophomore is an electrifying playmaker capable of taking it to the house every time he touches the ball. He took a jet sweep 23 yards for a touchdown against Georgia Southern and is a dangerous return man.

4. Georgia Tech A-Back Clinton Lynch: The redshirt freshman is tied for the team lead with eight touchdowns this year. He’s accounted for 422 of his team-high 631 all-purpose yards and six of his touchdowns over the past six games.

5. Georgia Tech QB Justin Thomas: The speedy sophomore and second-team All-ACC pick of a year ago is an excellent option quarterback, complete with all the shifty moves and deft ball fakes needed to make the offense go. He suffered an upper-body injury in the loss at Miami week. It’s hard to imagine the Yellow Jackets winning without him.
