Texas A&M has lost its only tight end commitment for 2016.

According to GigEm.com’s Taylor Hamm, Irvin Smith has backed out of his pledge to the Aggies and reopened his recruitment with only 13 days before National Signing Day.

The three-star prospect from New Orleans informed Hamm of his decision on Thursday night.

According to 247Sports.com, Smith had given the Aggies a verbal commitment back in the summer of 2015. The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder is rated as the No. 23 tight end in the class.

This is bad news for Texas A&M, but it’s good news for Alabama, which is in the running for his services, and he has an official visit scheduled on Friday to visit the Crimson Tide, according to 247Sports.com.
