LSU added a versatile defender to its 2016 recruiting class by getting a commitment from West Monroe, La., linebacker Layton Garnett, who will join the team as a preferred walk-on.

Garnett made the announcement on Twitter on Tuesday:

“I have decided to further my education and football career at Louisiana State University!” Garnett tweeted.

The 6-foot-2, 240-pounder is rated as a three-star prospect and the No. 52 inside linebacker in the class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.

He chose LSU over full scholarship offers from other programs at Louisiana-Monroe, Northwestern State, Nicholls State, Army and Duquesne.
