A last-minute official visit to Auburn last weekend might have been a sign that 6-foot-8, 280-pound defensive end was about to make a shift in his recruiting priorities.

It became official Wednesday morning when Sammons, a four-star from Cincinnati, Ohio, signed a national Letter of Intent with Auburn. It helps fill a need for the Tigers, who struggled defensively in 2015.

Sammons was expected to stay home in the Big Ten, with Michigan State, Ohio State and Michigan aggressively in the mix with him. Duke was in the mix as well.

The last visit might have sealed the deal.  “My wife and I were very impressed this weekend and loved really everything that Auburn had to offer,” Sammons’ father, Brandon, told AL.com.
