From Florida football star to Florida congressman?

That may seem like it wouldn’t be a smooth transition for Tim Tebow, but one person told the Washington Examiner’s Paul Bedard that he thinks he’d be “a shoo-in” for the 4th Congressional District seat.

The news comes on the heels of Rep. Ander Crenshaw, 71, a House appropriator from Jacksonville, Fla., unexpectedly announcing earlier this week that he’ll be retiring at the conclusion of his term this year.

Coincidentally, Tebow lives in the district.

According to the Examiner’s Republican sources, they’re looking to contact Tebow in order to persuade him to consider. Not only that, the sources said they’re quietly assembling a potential campaign team for the primary on Aug. 30 primary. The deadline for Tebow to declare for the primary is June 24.

Although that’s cutting it close, one source used a very appropriate line that Tebow may like (or find very cheesy, one or the other).

“We could hit the ground running, immediately,” the source said.

Tebow also has businesses XV Enterprises and the Tim Tebow Foundation based in the district. Aside from his willingness to make a difference with the less fortunate, Tebow would obviously bring tons of attention to the party.

Tebow, now an analyst for the SEC Network, is also on record telling FOX News two weeks ago that, “If there’s a chance you can make a difference someday in something, then that would be intriguing.

One Republican strategist knows the attention Tebow would bring the party.

“We do not pick favorites,” he said, but “obviously a huge Florida football star would be an interesting candidate for our side of the aisle.”
