Prepare for a youth movement, South Carolina fans. Or so says an ESPN voice.

ESPN college football analyst Tom Luginbill said Monday that he expects one of the two freshmen competing for the Gamecocks’ quarterback job to emerge as the starter. He delivered praise for both Brandon McIlwain and Jake Bentley, who skipped his senior season of high school to enroll at South Carolina.

“I think they will go with a youth movement, but it won’t just be with Brandon McIlwain,” Luginbill said. “It’s also going to include Jake Bentley.”

He went on to say that he expects Bentley and McIlwain to distance themselves in time.

“He is the type of player that [offensive coordinator] Kurt Roper wants to have in the offense,” Luginbill said when describing Bentley. “He and Brandon McIlwain … one of those two will emerge as a starter, and South Carolina will ride it out.”

You can watch Luginbill’s complete comments below. The Gamecocks’ quarterback situation will be a fascinating one to follow. The competition also will include senior Perry Orth, who had 1,929 yards passing with 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions last season.

New coach Will Muschamp definitely has options. You can see the appeal of going young behind center at the start of his tenure, though.
