Earlier this morning, we reported that Mississippi State had landed 3-star offensive lineman Cordavien Suggs out of the Sunshine State during Friday’s Big Dawg Camp. But wait, there’s more!

According to The Clarion-Ledger, coach Dan Mullen pulled a hat trick by receiving the commitment of two others in addition to Suggs on the same day with a pair of JUCO’s — one being 4-star defensive tackle Deion Pope, and the other being 6-foot-6, 350-pound offensive guard Tyre Phillips.

Pope is the No. 2 player at his position among junior college transfers from the 2017 recruiting class. Here’s what Will Sammon wrote of the pick up:

Pope, who also has an offer from Auburn, is rated as the nation’s No. 7 overall JUCO prospect and the nation’s No. 2 defensive tackle by the 247Sports Composite. Pope sat out last season to get his academics in order, he said, but at 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds, he did not appear to look at all out of shape.

Pope said MSU wants him to play more on the edge at the next level.

Pope is MSU’s second-highest rated commit for 2017, behind only Columbus running back Kylin Hill. He helps solidify the 2017 defensive line group of commits, which consists of four players.

Phillips, meanwhile, is unranked by recruiting services. But his size is enough foundation to take a shot and try to develop him into a diamond-in-the-rough type of player for future services.

“I’m ready for it,” said Phillips, who added he grew up an MSU fan. “I worked at every position last month at their camp and proved to them that I am mobile.”

The Bulldogs now have 20 commitments for the ’17 class, which ranks 14th nationally and 6th in the SEC.
