The speculation and sourced reports are over: Nick Chubb is cleared to play against North Carolina in the opener, according to Kirby Smart during Monday’s press conference.

Smart also mentioned that Chubb won’t have a “pitch count” or “carry count” against the Tar Heels, but I’m sure the staff will be mindful of his status.

The speculation surrounding Chubb in recent weeks is that he will play, but it wasn’t known to what extent and whether or not he’ll start. Obviously, the biggest concern with Chubb entering the preseason was how his knee would respond to contact. However, no red flags or issues emerged after either of the two scrimmages.

With Chubb fully cleared, college football will be that much more exciting Saturday.
