Kirby Smart knows Nick Chubb and Derrick Henry better than most people. Smart came from Alabama, where Henry just won the Heisman Trophy, and now one year later, the first-year head coach is at Georgia.

Chubb ran for 222 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday, which led to Smart being asked after the Bulldogs’ victory over North Carolina to compare Chubb and Henry.

“They’re both powerful, the No. 1 similarity,” said Smart, via macon.com. “They’re a different style, in my opinion. Derrick was a long slasher who could run the power downhill. But Derrick got a lot of his long runs bouncing things out. Nick is a very patient runner that turns the hardest of yards. He can run outside but he runs through a lot of arm tackles, like Derrick did. They got some similarities but they’re also are a little different. They’re built completely differently.”

Smart then talked about one similarity that showcase what kind of people they are.

“Two different type of kids but both of them are common in that they work extremely hard,” Smart said. “They’re both very humble and loyal to their teammates.”

Chubb went through an 11-month rehab leading up to the team’s season-opener on Saturday after sustaining tears to his PCL, MCL and ACL last season against Tennessee.

The No. 9-ranked Bulldogs’ next game is against Nicholls State on Sept. 10 at Sanford Stadium.
