True freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts led the Alabama Crimson Tide to a thrilling 48-43 come-from-behind victory over Ole Miss on the road.

Hurts demonstrated his ability on the football field with sublime elusiveness and a very strong arm. Perhaps even more, he proved himself to his team during the face of adversity.

At one point, the Rebels took a 24-3 lead over the Crimson Tide. Hurts was blindsided by a Marquis Haynes hit. The tackle dislodged the ball — which was picked up by fellow Ole Miss DE Jack Youngblood. The defender scampered 44 yards for a touchdown — which gave Ole Miss the three-score advantage.

According to AL.com, Hurts came off of the field and kept his composure. Many true freshmen may feel overwhelmed — especially playing the quarterback position on the road in a hostile environment. However, Hurts stayed even-keeled.

According to starting center Bradley Bozeman, “He was just like, ‘I still got y’all’s back. Y’all got mine. Let’s keep rolling. He didn’t let it affect him at all. He got back in the game and kept playing. Lot of maturity out of Jalen.”

Head coach Nick Saban also praised Hurts immensely after the tough victory:

“Think about when you were a freshman in college. These guys are still trying to figure out going to class, how to handle the social aspects of their development, which is a little difficult when you’re that age, and come to practice and prepare for a game, and all that. So some guys are unique in their ability to do that. Jalen is a little bit like that. He’s very focused, nothing affects him, nothing bothers him. Nothing bothered him in the game.”

Linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton summed it up best when he said, “[Jalen] showed that he’s not your typical freshman.”
