Texas A&M defensive coordinator John Chavis, who previously held the same position at LSU, said he wasn’t surprising by Tigers coach Les Miles’ firing Sunday and that he hasn’t reached out to his former colleague.

Chavis yesterday told ESPN’S Chris Low that LSU had been trying to fire Miles for some time, and he again commented on the matter during a Tuesday news conference. He served as Miles’ defensive coordinator 2009-2014, engineering some of the best units in program history before his abrupt departure following the Tigers’ Music City Bowl loss to Notre Dame.

Chavis and LSU are still embroiled in a lawsuit regarding his buyout, but the defensive coordinator still had some sympathy for his former head coach. Here’s what Chavis said about the situation:
