SEC Network’s Paul Finebaum thinks Texas will go all-in on Houston coach Tom Herman, much like it was reportedly willing to offer Alabama coach Nick Saban three years ago, which could spoil LSU’s coaching search.

Finebaum appeared on ESPN’s College Football Sunday and discussed the potential domino effects of Les Miles’ firing and Herman’s future.

“Tom Herman controls everything … If Tom Herman has Texas and or LSU, in my mind, he’s going to Texas. He’s already there, he knows the terrain, and it’s a better job than LSU.”

Co-analyst Kevin Carter agreed and called Alabama a “huge storm cloud” that Herman wouldn’t have to deal with annually at Texas.

“Texas boosters were willing to spend $100 million three years ago to bring Nick Saban there,” Finebaum added. “There were serious conversations going on, and Saban, I think, thought about it but he didn’t want to deal with all the entities, the boosters. But if they were willing to give Saban $100 million three years ago, they’re willing to break the bank, I think, to bring Tom Herman in now.”

Herman has a 18-1 (9-1 AAC) record in two seasons as a head coach, including a 5-0 start in 2016. Houston currently ranks No. 6 overall in the AP Poll.

Herman has also been linked to the Auburn and Texas A&M jobs should those become available this offseason.
