We’re not alone in being excited for this top 10 matchup between SEC teams. Lots of media outlets share that sentiment, so here’s a look at what some of them are saying leading up to the matchup between No. 6 Texas A&M and No. 1 Alabama.

Tuscaloosa News sports writer Aaron Suttles discusses why Trevor Knight will be a handful for Alabama on Saturday. For one thing, Knight ranks fourth in the SEC in passing yards per game. However, Knight is also fifth in the SEC in yards per carry with an impressive 7.7 average.

David Paschall of The Chattanooga Times Free Press builds a similar case on Knight. He points to the fact that Knight and Deshaun Watson are the only quarterbacks since 2013 to throw four touchdowns against Alabama. Paschall also notes Knight and Louisville’s Lamar Jackson are the only FBS quarterbacks to pass for 1,500 yards and rush for 500 yards (although South Florida’s Quinton Flowers also belongs in that group with 1,535 passing yards and 655 rushing yards).

AggieSports.com’s Robert Cessna says the bye week did Texas A&M a world of good. Aggies players were able to rest last week at a time when it was needed.

AL.com’s Matt Zenitz chronicles how Texas A&M desperately made a late recruiting push for Jalen Hurts, but Hurts stuck with his original commitment to Alabama. A&M’s quarterbacks Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray both transferred in December, and family friend Kevin Sumlin did an in-house recruiting visit. But Jalen remained firm on his commitment. As in the case of Blake Barnett, it seems Lane Kiffin was instrumental in Hurts’ recruitment.

Fox Sports’ sportscaster Tim Brando lays out a case for why LSU is a tougher test than A&M. Brando points to the fact that Texas A&M gave up a lot of explosive plays against Tennessee. He believes if A&M can’t create pressure and get multiple losses on defense — sacks, in other words — then, it will be tough for A&M to pull off the upset. Physically, LSU can match Alabama. LSU plays a similar style of game and therefore, matches up better against Alabama. Brando went on to call Jalen Hurts “Deshaun Watson in waiting.”

Gridiron Now’s Tony Barnhart sees the Alabama defense being just too good for Texas A&M. Barnhart says the only way the Aggies pull off the upset is if the team throws the ball, and throws the ball boldly, on first down.

Fox Sports’ Dieter Kurtenbach gives seven reasons why Texas A&M can beat Alabama. His reasons include: improved offensive line, Trevor Knight’s mobility, Myles Garrett and the fact that A&M hasn’t played its best game of the season yet.

The Dothan Eagle’s Ken Rogers points to three defensive stats Alabama must be concerned about, starting with quarterback sacks. Rogers says A&M is tied for 16th in the nation in sacks, tied for second in turnovers created and third in creating negative plays, all strong indicators for John Chavis’ defense. Rogers says Cam Robinson and Jonah Williams are big x-factors heading into the game. Both players need strong games to keep the Alabama offense rolling.
