Criticizing the broadcasters: Fans 'diss-robe' Danielson & more
Gary Danielson usually generates reactions for what he says on the air. During last Saturday’s Alabama-Tennessee game at Neyland Stadium, the CBS Sports analyst was all the rage on social media for what he wore.
While interviewing Peyton Manning during the broadcast, Danielson wore a robe to pay tribute to the Vols’ legend, who has been seen recently in several DirecTV commercials wearing a bathrobe while trying to cope with not playing football on Sundays. Manning retired in March after winning Super Bowl 50 with the Denver Broncos.
We’re not sure if Mr. Blackwell or if Tim Gunn of “Project Runway” had anything to say about Danielson’s fashion choice. Let’s just say it generated quite a frenzy on Twitter:

Gary Danielson is wearing a robe in the booth while talking to Peyton and Verne. You can't make this up.

Gary Danielson overslept. He's still in his bath robe!

Why is Gary Danielson in a bath robe?

What in gods name is Gary Danielson wearing. A robe? #CBS

No laughing matter for some
Meanwhile, as the second quarter was coming to a close, Alabama was trying to get into position for a first half-ending field goal. As Crimson Tide QB Jalen Hurts scrambled for a first down, it initially appeared that the clock ran out.
But after the officials reviewed the play, they put a couple seconds back on the clock, which allowed Adam Griffith to try a 37-yard attempt, which he missed. However, upon remembering that the Crimson Tide was famously burned in the 2013 Iron Bowl when a second was added to the clock before Auburn’s Chris Davis pulled off his incredible Kick-Six following another Griffith miss, Danielson and broadcasting partner Verne Lundquist laughed, which didn’t sit well with some Alabama fans:
Verne and Gary…enough with the one second references. A lot has happened since then…like national championships.

How do Verne and Gary manage to work the Kick6 into literally every game they've called since?
— Meredith (@DivineMrsMH) October 15, 2016
Yes we've had 9 straight games of non-offensive touchdowns but Verne and Gary have had 1000 straight games of offensive kick 6 references.

Gary and Verne made a joke about kicking with 1 second left!!! I love when it gets brought up every single week!!! #Comedy #Funny #Relevant
— Gavin McNellage (@GMcnellage) October 15, 2016
That 1 second field goal joke is why no one likes you Verne and Gary!!! #Alabama #RollTide #BAMAvsTENN

Tigers fans roar at Palmer
And finally, this space is usually good for at least one Brent Musburger reference. But that’s not the case this week.
Musburger and analyst Jesse Palmer called Florida’s 40-14 victory over Missouri last Saturday on SEC Network. We don’t know if Palmer’s background as a former Gator QB was the reason, but some Tigers fans weren’t pleased with his work:
I'd rather watch commercials waiting for @FirstTake than hear Jesse Palmer or Dan LeBatard talk
— Andrew Bradley (@Andrew8Bradley) October 18, 2016
I just want to slap Jesse Palmer right in his mouth. Undercover hater. I don't care who he played for.
— Crystal Ford (@CMFord24) October 15, 2016
In an effort to be impartial, Jesse Palmer is making me angry. Be quiet, JP.
— Joel Bronson (@UF7Gator) October 15, 2016
Jesse Palmer likes to call running backs "no nonsense running backs". What would a "nonsense running back" be like? Hand buzzer? Red nose?
— Jeff (BPredict) (@BPredict) October 15, 2016
Jesse Palmer is lobbying for Damarea Crockett to get more touches. Jesse Palmer is now, suddenly, MU fans' favorite commentator.
