Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze will burn the redshirt from true freshman Shea Patterson and give him the nod for Saturday’s game versus Texas A&M, according to Bleacher Report’s Barrett Sallee.

Patterson was a five-star recruit and the No. 1 overall quarterback prospect from the class of 2016. He will fill in for star quarterback Chad Kelly, who tore his ACL last week against Georgia Southern and will not return this season without any eligibility remaining for 2017.

In 43 games throughout his high school career with IMG Academy, Patterson completed 449-of-714 pass attempts (62.9 percent) for 8,479 yards, 122 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. There’s a lot to be excited for if you’re a Rebels fan.

Ole Miss (4-5, 1-4) needs to win two of its next three games to be considered bowl eligible. The Rebels travel to Texas A&M tomorrow before finishing the regular season at Vanderbilt and at home against rival Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl.
