Leonard Fournette is going to be fine.

That’s, at least, what LSU interim coach Ed Orgeron said during a Monday news conference. The Tigers’ star running back aggravated a nagging high ankle sprain/bruise during his team’s 38-10 win at Arkansas last Saturday.

Fournette’s health will be paramount for LSU as it heads into its rescheduled cross-division rivalry with Florida this weekend. The junior has torched the Gators’ normally stout defense for 320 yards and four touchdowns in two career games against it.

Florida’s defense isn’t any different this season, ranking 12th nationally in stopping the run with only 111.3 yards allowed per game. Fournette’s injury has caused him to miss three games this season, but he currently seems like a go for Saturday’s contest.

Even if Fournette can’t play, the Tigers’ talent at the position doesn’t drop off much with backup Derrius Guice.

The sophomore leads the SEC with 8.7 yards per carry and most recently exploded for 252 yards against the Razorbacks. Guice even ripped off a 96-yard touchdown scamper in the fourth quarter of that game, during which Fournette didn’t play after a nice outing of his own.

The No. 16 Tigers (6-3, 4-2) and No. 21 Gators (7-2, 5-2) will meet in Tiger Stadium at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday.
