Alabama recruits as well as anyone.

Nick Saban and his staff do a tremendous job of stocking the proverbial cupboard full of former high school All-Americans. Alabama’s success during this recent dynasty is in direct correlation with the depth on its roster.

An unfortunate byproduct of this said depth is the possibility of transfers. Many former 4 and 5-star recruits simply are buried on the depth chart due to the competition within the roster.

As such, some ultimately opt to garner an opportunity elsewhere.

Running back Derrick Gore has come to this conclusion. A former walk-on out of New York, Gore announced on Instagram that he will transfer from the program:

Gore’s journey to Tuscaloosa is quite a tale. Hailing from Syracuse originally, Gore spent a year in prep school before joining Coffeyville Community College in Kansas.

He then joined Saban’s program — seeing time immediately as a reserve running back and as a special teams player.

The depth chart at running back is absolutely loaded. Bo Scarbrough announced he will return to school for another season. Alabama also possesses 1,000-yard rusher Damien Harris and soon-to-be sophomore Joshua Jacobs. Najee Harris — the nation’s top running back within the class of 2017 — just enrolled on campus.

Gore saw the writing on the wall, and decided to play elsewhere. He’ll have two years at his future destination.
