The Paul Finebaum Show is often the source of debate in the SEC, but the off-the-wall opinions usually come from its litany of fans call-ins. The most recent controversy has come from a well-known voice in football, however.

Early this week some shots were fired by NFL Hall of Famer and four-time Super Bowl champion Terry Bradshaw with respect to the accolades of Alabama head coach Nick Saban. The Outside The Lines panels took exception to the majority of what Bradshaw had to say during his segment of Finebaum’s show.

In the midst of a heated argument with famed caller “Phyllis from Mulga”, the former Steelers’ great called Nick Saban’s salary “shameful,” and questioned his greatness on the way to saying that Steve Spurrier was a better coach (quotes via The Comeback).

Bradshaw: “I understand Saban, that’s your coach. What’s he making, $12 million now? That is the entire athletic budget at Louisiana Tech. The entire budget. That’s shameful! Shameful!”

Phyllis: “Shame? You think the man hasn’t earned it? Do you think the man hasn’t earned every single dollar he has earned at the University of Alabama?”

According to Bradshaw, it is Saban’s personality and perceived lack of humbleness that costs him points – not his performance on the field. When comparing Nick Saban with former Florida and South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier, wins and losses were never discussed.

“If he has the personality of Steve Spurrier, then I would like him. Spurrier, now you’re talking about a great coach. That’s a great coach, Steve Spurrier, not Saban. Saban hates people. The man doesn’t even like people. 12 million. Think about it. I could use a little bit of that money to kind of help pay off my trailer house.”

Bradshaw, a native of Shreveport, Louisiana, and a Louisiana Tech product, clearly doesn’t buy the Saban hype, but as an NFL expert, he can weigh in on college football with little consequence – except for the Alabama fans that will be undoubtedly invading his Twitter mentions.
