Dak Prescott arrived on the scene in 2016 with little expectation.

He was just set to learn behind Cowboys QB Tony Romo and potentially get some playing time in mop-up duty; however, things changed when Romo went down with a back injury, and Prescott went on to become a rookie record-setting NFL QB and named the Offensive Rookie of the Year.

But entering Year 2, there are huge expectations for Prescott and the Cowboys, as reflected in NFL.com’s top 100 players for 2017. Prescott debuted at an impressive No. 14. Still, NFL.com writer Nick Shook isn’t that convinced that Prescott belongs in the top 20.

I don’t want to be Debbie Downer here. I really don’t. But this selection keeps whispering “hyperbole, hyperbole!” in my ear. These are individual season rankings, though, Prescott was the quarterback of one of the league’s best teams, and he did do a bang-up job. But will we see him in the Top 20 after Year 2? If he posts another similar season, perhaps. Zoom in on his rookie stat line and you’ll see why he’s up here after one season: a 23-4 TD-INT ratio. Prescott limited mistakes and flirted with a completion percentage of 70, finishing at 67.8. He also posted a 104.9 passer rating, and the Cowboys finished 13-3. OK, fine, he deserves this.

It will certainly be tougher for Prescott in his second season. Teams have film of the Cowboys’ offense with Prescott at the helm, and defensive minds will find his tendencies and weaknesses and attempt to exploit them. But perhaps the best thing going for him is the Cowboys’ good offensive line and dynamic playmakers around him. It will be tough to duplicate last year’s success, but after what he did during his rookie season, many won’t be betting against him.

Here are 20 minutes of highlights of Prescott’s rookie season to help refresh your memory.
