At his press conference Tuesday afternoon, South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp was asked if he thought Gamecocks junior wide receiver should be a Heisman Trophy contender.

Muschamp replied, “Based on the impact he’s had on our team after two games, absolutely.”

Samuel has been one of the most electrifying players in college football in the first two weeks of the season. He’s had a 97-yard kickoff return touchdown in each game, as well as some other kind of touchdown. Against NC State, he had two receiving scores. Then, on Saturday at Missouri, he punched in a 25-yard rushing touchdown.

It’s safe to say Samuel been one of the nation’s top all-purpose players thus far this season. Muschamp admitted he’s not paid attention to any other guys around the nation, but he’s impressed with the guy he’s got.

“That’s not a big working sample,” Muschamp noted.
