What Mark Stoops said after Kentucky took down Tennessee
Kentucky knocked off Tennessee on Saturday night in Lexington, 29-26.
It took a gutsy effort in the fourth quarter, but the Wildcats did what they’ve done best this season — win a close game.
The ‘Cats seem to have possibly gotten over a proverbial “hump” with this win. This was just the second time they have beaten Tennessee in the past 33 seasons.
Head coach Mark Stoops was elated, and he wants to keep winning.
Here’s what he had to say after the game:
Stoops: Important to me and these players. Prideful. Randall Cobb, Wesley, all players back, means a lot. Want to keep on winning.

Stoops: “Even you in the media have to admit that was a thing of beauty… How many times have we been on the other end?”

Stoops: UT a prideful program. Knew they’d come in here and play extremely hard. In many ways, they outplayed us.

Asked about his “gutsy QB,” Stoops says: Amazing. Many players would not have come back. Tough as nails.

Stoops: Have to give credit to our football team hung in there difficult times. Turnovers put us behind the 8 ball.
— Freddie Maggard (@FredMaggard) October 29, 2017
Stoops: Cats rediscovered their offensive identity. Had almost 300 rushing yards with only 52 total plays. “Hard to believe.”

Stoops on final pass: Pissed off we were in that situation. Jordan kinda floated on that drop. Have to have better sense on that situation.
— Freddie Maggard (@FredMaggard) October 29, 2017
Stoops: Didn’t say a word, didn’t want to get in way (Offense final TD drive).
— Freddie Maggard (@FredMaggard) October 29, 2017
Stoops on 6th win…..We didn’t even address it, hopefully we’ve moved beyond that. Hope we want more than that. I hope mindset, get next 1
— Freddie Maggard (@FredMaggard) October 29, 2017
Stoops: Most of the time your identity comes from the O-Line, and they really stepped up their play.
— Jeff Drummond (@JDrumUK) October 29, 2017
Stoops said he can’t recall being on a team that had a -4 in turnover margin and won a game.

Say what you want, but Kentucky is 6-2 and a whole heck of a lot teams are not. Stephen Johnson, tough as nails.
