Saturday’s trip to Auburn will be one of Georgia’s biggest challenges this season.

The Bulldogs have cruised for much of the year with their only truly close game coming against Notre Dame in South Bend. Georgia remains undefeated and should hang onto its No. 1 spot in the College Football Playoff Top 25 when the rankings are announced Tuesday night.

Taking on the Tigers, who were No. 14 on the debut Playoff rankings and could land inside the top 10 this week, is definitely a tough road matchup for the Bulldogs. Marcus Spears and Greg McElroy took time to break down Saturday’s game on the SEC Network, and Spears sees big implications coming as a result.

Spears says the Bulldogs have to begin shifting their focus for this season, and a win over the Tigers could be huge for the rest of the year:

“They have to shift focus to trying to win the national championship,” said Spears. “They know that this is a big one for them…a win would give them confidence going into the rest of the season.”

McElroy also commented on the game. He believes Kirby Smart’s time with Alabama before coming to Athens will enable him to prepare the Bulldogs for the mounting pressure:

“Georgia hasn’t really gotten to the pinnacle,” said McElroy, “But that doesn’t matter because Kirby Smart has been to the pinnacle and he knows how to handle it.”

Fans should be in for a great game this weekend. Saturday’s kickoff is set for 3:30 pm EST on CBS.
