Is Tennessee athletic director John Currie, perhaps, trolling?

One would think an athletic director wouldn’t be trolling during a real-life interview, but Currie is being questioned on social media.

He had an interesting quote in a recent article from the Knoxville News Sentinel.

“I had so many people coming up to me saying they were there for the players,” Currie said to the Rotary Club of Knoxville on Tuesday. “They came for the boys. That’s what one of them said, ‘Saturdays are for the boys.’ That was inspiring to me.”

If you don’t already know, “Saturdays Are For The Boys” has absolutely nothing to do with football players. It is a Barstool Sports catchphrase referring essentially to college guys who party with their male friends on Saturdays as opposed to hanging out with their girlfriends.

Now, this is kind of a millennial thing. Often times, people will ask high-ranking individuals, such as politicians, coaches, athletes, etc., “What are Saturdays for?”

The ones who get it will reply, “For the boys.”

Maybe Currie knows what this is supposed to mean, and he’s just making a joke. Or, perhaps he doesn’t know, which many people on Twitter also think is funny.

Either way, the timing is weird considering a majority of the Tennessee fan base is upset with the AD for being hesitant to get rid of the Volunteers’ head coach.

Many Vols fans would tell you Saturdays should be for firing Butch Jones.
