It appears Tommy Tuberville may be interested in a return to Auburn.

It was announced last week that Auburn AD Jay Jacobs was stepping down from his position amidst multiple scandals involving the athletic program. As of now, Jacobs will officially be leaving on June 1, 2018, but he has said he would leave sooner if his replacement is lined up.

It was also shared Thursday that at least one person has expressed interest in the opening.

Tuberville was asked about the recent opening, and he said he would love to help the Auburn sports program. He believes he could do a lot to help the school improve and perform better moving forward.

Mark Heim with AL.com shared Tuberville’s comments that were made on Heim’s “The Opening Kickoff” radio show:

“I would love to help Auburn’s athletic program,” Tuberville said. “I don’t think there’s anyone more qualified than me…I would love to talk to the president, whether I am a candidate or whether I can help.”

Tuberville certainly did have his share of success as head coach of the Tigers. He led Auburn to an 85-40 record over 10 seasons. Tuberville also coached the Tigers to the 2004 SEC Championship and won the Sugar Bowl that season.

He went on to say that Auburn’s athletic program is currently under performing, and he wants to help Auburn be the best it can be:

“They are way underachieving in that athletic program, as we speak,” Tuberville said. “There are a lot of great things and a lot of good people…I just want Auburn to get the full use out of everything they have because it is a great place.”

It will be interesting to see if Auburn does turn to Tuberville for help.

In the mean time, current head coach Gus Malzahn will try to lead the Tigers to an upset of No. 1 Georgia this weekend. Kickoff for Saturday’s game is set for 3:30 pm EST on CBS.
