If you have ever followed a Tennessee coaching search, you know how wild it can get.

And the Volunteers’ latest search — albeit just five days in — is already exceeding expectations.

Tennessee fired Butch Jones this past Sunday, and as would be expected, tons of candidates’ names have been thrown out this week as potential replacements.

Those names have ranged from Jon Gruden, the overwhelming favorite, to Dan Mullen, Mike Norvell and even Jimbo Fisher.

One name that hasn’t gotten a ton of attention up to this point, despite being listed as one of the initial favorites, is Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino.

On Friday, former Georgia coach Jim Donnan joined The Paul Finebaum Show and said if he was the guy making the hire at Tennessee, he would go for the former Arkansas coach:

Would Petrino be a good fit at UT?

He’s been successful just about everywhere he has been, and he just lost the athletic director who hired him at Louisville.

It’s certainly not out of the realm of possibilities that the Vols would reach out.
