Nobody had a worse New Year’s Day than the Auburn Tigers.

The day began with Tigers fans likely still wondering what could have been this season. Auburn was one of the hottest teams in the country down the stretch and secured big wins over Georgia and Alabama in the last month of action. Unfortunately, Auburn would come up short in the SEC Championship.

The Tigers, hampered by the injury to star RB Kerryon Johnson, were sluggish and ineffective as Georgia rolled to a win in Atlanta. The loss knocked Auburn out of the College Football Playoff, and Tigers fans had to watch as their two biggest rivals advanced to the Playoff.

The consolation prize for Auburn was a Peach Bowl matchup with UCF that did not go well. The Knights outplayed Auburn and went on to knock off the Tigers by a score of 34-27 to complete a perfect season for UCF.

New Year’s Day would only get worse as Auburn had to watch its rivals secure wins in the Playoff and advance to the national championship game. Regardless of the outcome on Jan. 8, it is hard to deny that everything went wrong for Auburn on the first day of 2018.

Auburn fans on Twitter are understandably having a tough time dealing with everything that went down on Monday:
