In back-to-back seasons, Mississippi State’s Women’s basketball team lost in the national championship game.

Last year, it came to South Carolina. This year, it came to Notre Dame.

The Bulldogs led at halftime 30-17, but the Irish came roaring back in the second half and outscored the Bulldogs 24-11 in the third quarter. When things looked like it would head to overtime, Notre Dame’s Arike Ogunbowale won it with an incredible buzzer-beater to win 61-58.

Mississippi State’s Senior Victoria Vivians finished with a game-high 21 points, nine rebounds and four steals, while Teaira McCowa finished with 18 points and 17 rebounds.

The Irish hit only two three pointers the entire game, and both of them came late in the fourth quarter. The win gave Notre Dame its second national championship in Women’s basketball.
