South Carolina heads into Will Muschamp’s third season as head coach with some excitement, returning some stars from a team that went 9-4 in 2017. The 2018 Gamecocks have their eyes set on a double-digit win season, but the ESPN Football Power Index lists four games on South Carolina’s schedule that the Gamecocks have a less than 50 percent chance of winning.

After opening up the season with a cupcake against Coastal Carolina, all eyes with be on the matchup against Georgia in Williams-Brice Stadium in week 2. The FPI gives South Carolina only a 20.9 percent chance to win the SEC opener. No doubt, the entire country will be watching this one.

After the Georgia game, things get a little easier for Will Muschamp, with three straight games against Marshall, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky. The FPI gives USC a 65 percent chance or better to win all three of those games.

There are some toss-ups, with a 56.1 percent chance of beating Missouri at home and a 51.5 percent chance of beating Texas A&M at home as well. Surprisingly, the FPI only gives the Gamecocks a 47.7 percent chance to win at Ole Miss, and a 34.2 percent chance to win in Gainesville. South Carolina wraps up the season with its annual rivalry game against Clemson, and the FPI only gives it a 9.5 percent chance to win the Palmetto Bowl.

The FPI gives South Carolina a zero percent chance of going undefeated, and only a 1.6 percent chance of winning the SEC. The media voted the Gamecocks to finish second in the SEC East.

South Carolina kicks off its season Saturday, Sept. 1 at 12:00 p.m. ET against Coastal Carolina.
