Feleipe Franks had a strong season opener, but now the Florida quarterback will try to have a repeat performance when the Gators play Kentucky this Saturday.

Franks passed for 219 yards and five touchdowns in Florida’s 53-6 win over Charleston Southern. On Wednesday’s SEC Coaches’ Teleconference, Gators coach Dan Mullen discussed how Franks can build off his season debut this upcoming week.

  • His job is to manage the game and execute what we call, he understands that. You are only as good as your last play. … To me, spend all your time on evaluating your performance. What everyone else thinks of your performance is irrelevant. … All they look at is your stat line. … He’s done a good job this week, new gameplan, new execution, nothing that happened last week has any effect on this week.

Mullen also talked about how he communicated with Franks on the sideline.

  • I try to get him to enjoy the game. … There’s a big learning curve for guys … learning how to talk and communicate on every detail of the game. As soon as they come off the field, I want them talking to their teammates, then getting on the mic and discussing what he’s seeing on the field. … The most important thing for us is what the quarterback sees on the field … we have to teach it/coach it through his eyes.

Here are some other items that Mullen discussed on the teleconference:

On senior offensive lineman Martez Ivey:

  • He’s done a good job, dealt with some injuries, done a good job to get into shape … getting stronger. From when I first got here to now, watching his physical development, he’s moving better out there. He’s really bought in.

On redshirt sophomore tight end Lucas Krull:

  • He’s coming along. He has a bunch of development. To be a complete player at the position … but that will come after being away from the position for a few years.

On if he thinks about Florida’s 31-game winning streak over Kentucky:

  • If it had anything to do with the outcome of the game, I would, but since it doesn’t … really not. I’m concerned with this week.
